Before you familiarize yourself with the material in this article, I want to make a special emphasis on the fact that only specially trained personnel can carry out high-quality installation and maintenance of automobile scales. Compliance with the rules of operation of truck scales is the main condition for their high-quality and long-term operation.

The principle of operation of electronic scales is based on the transformation of the deformation of the elastic elements of strain gauge load cells arising under the action of gravity of the weighed load into electrical signals that vary in proportion to the mass of the load. Electrical signals from load cells are fed to the load meter. The weighing device processes the received information and displays the measured value of the mass of the load on its own display and (or) external electronic devices.

Let us consider one of the methods of mounting BM14K and HM14H1 strain gauges of the ZEMIC USA Inc brand. Rod type strain gauges BM14K (Figure 1) and HM14H1 (Figure 2) can be used in automobile and railway scales of any type of execution (foundation, “foundationless”).

For installation, with any of the installation methods, the built-in units – cups are required. Complete with the BM14K strain gauge, the BY-14-102 insert nodes are used; complete with the HM14H1 strain gauge, the BY-14-146 insert nodes are used.

1. The upper base plate (pos. 1) is welded to the load receiving platform (pos. 8) in the calculated position.

2. Using the M8x35 screws with an internal hexagon, the upper cup is attached to the upper base plate (item 2).

3. The lower base plate (pos. 3) must be fixed by welding it to the base (embedded) foundation plate (pos. 5) along an open circuit by manual arc welding with a 10 mm leg. The minimum dimensions of the base plate are 230x230x20 mm.

4. The load cell (pos. 4) is mounted on the lower base plate using eccentrics, M16x30 bolts and spring washers.

5. The spherical bearing surface of the strain gauge should enter the corresponding socket of the upper cup.

6. Use the eccentrics (key 6) to adjust the position of the lower cup (key 10) on the base plate. The load cell should be upright.

7. Install a grounding shunt. Grounding is subject to: upper (pos. 1) and lower (pos. 3) base plates.

ATTENTION! Welding is carried out only with removed sensors.

At first glance, there is nothing complicated in installing strain gauges. But by installing the strain gauge yourself, you expose the system to an additional risk. Having no experience in such work, there is no guarantee of long-term operation of independently installed equipment.

REMEMBER! The manufacture, installation and maintenance of truck scales must be carried out exclusively by specially trained qualified personnel. In order to avoid failure of the balance, do not carry out repairs on your own, or change their design in any way.
